This excerpt is from our chapter in confessing sin:

"This is what the gospel is for. It’s not for building a community that ducks and dodges and hides. It’s not for recruiting religious Navy Seals to give all-star performances for Jesus. It’s not for people who perpetually Johnny-Cash it. God’s grace in the gospel exists precisely because we don’t walk the line. We do sin, fast and furious. And the fallout is bad. Our lives, and the lives of those closest to us, get messed up. We need the gospel to experience forgiveness and freedom from all that sin. And, as the grizzled Apostle John teaches us, that only happens if we open the books of our lives and come clean in community."
